dc.description.abstractΗ εργασία εξετάζει τον ρόλο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (EE) απέναντι στην Κύπρο και την ενταξιακή της πορεία στην Ευρωπαϊκή Οικονομική Κοινότητα (ΕΟΚ). Αξιολογούνται οι διπλωματικές πρωτοβουλίες, οι προκλήσεις της αλλά και τα βήματα που ακολουθήθηκαν μέχρι η Κύπρος να ενταχθεί στην «οικογένεια» της ΕΕ το 2004. Παράλληλα αναλύεται η στάση της Ελλάδας και η επιρροή που άσκησε για την ένταξη της Κύπρου στην ΕΕ, καθώς και τυχόν αστοχίες. Αναλυτικότερα, η εργασία αναλύει τη στάση της Ευρωπαϊκής Κοινότητας (ΕK) προς την τουρκική εισβολή, η πρόοδος της Κύπρου προς την ένταξη, και οι επιπτώσεις της ένταξης στην επίλυση των εθνοτικών συγκρούσεων. Το έργο επίσης εξετάζει τις επιδράσεις της ευρωπαϊκής πολιτικής στην επίλυση του Κυπριακού, καθώς και τις ασυμμετρίες στις θέσεις της ΕΕ προς την Ελλάδα, την Κύπρο και την Τουρκία. Η έρευνα καταλήγει στο συμπέρασμα ότι αν και η ένταξη της Κύπρου το 2004 αποτέλεσε μια διπλωματική επιτυχία, η διχοτόμηση παραμένει μέχρι και σήμερα, αναδεικνύοντας τις γεωπολιτικές δυσκολίες της περιοχής. Παράλληλα, καταγράφονται προτάσεις για μελλοντική έρευνα σχετικά με την επίλυση περιφερειακών συγκρούσεων μέσω ευρωπαϊκών μηχανισμών.el
dc.description.abstracttranslatedThe paper examines European Union's (EU) role towards Cyprus and its accession process to the European Economic Community (EEC). It evaluates the diplomatic initiatives, the challenges and the steps followed until Cyprus joined the EU “family” in 2004. At the same time, it analyzed the position of Greece and its influence towards the acceptance of Cyprus in the EE. In more details, the paper analyzes the position of the European Community (EC) towards the Turkish invasion, Cyprus’s progress towards accession and the implications of accession. The project also examines the effects of European policy in resolving the problem of Cyprus, as well as the various asymmetries that existed from the stance of EU towards Greece, Cyprus and Turkey. The research concludes that even though the accession of Cyprus in EU in 2004 marked a diplomatic success, the island remains divided until today, under covering various complex geopolitical matter in the area. The study also provides proposals for further research in the future, considering regional conflicts through European mechanisms.el
