dc.description.abstractΣτην παρούσα διατριβή εξετάζονται οι πολυετείς και πολύπλευρες σχέσεις που αναπτύχθηκαν από τις αρχές του 13ου έως και περίπου τα μέσα του 15ου αιώνα μεταξύ της Αυτοκρατορίας της Τραπεζούντας και του βασιλείου της Γεωργίας. Δια μέσου της συγκριτικής ανάλυσης των βυζαντινών, γεωργιανών, αρμενικών και ρωσικών πηγών επιδιώξαμε να αναδείξουμε σημαντικές πτυχές των αδιάλειπτων κοινωνικοπολιτικών αλληλεπιδράσεων μεταξύ των δύο όμορων, ομόθρησκων και ομόδοξων βασιλείων σε ένα συνεχώς διευρυνόμενο μουσουλμανικό κόσμο. Η συμμαχία που επικυρώθηκε στις αρχές του 12ου αιώνα μέσω δυναστικού συνοικεσίου μεταξύ του βυζαντινού αυτοκρατορικού οίκου των Κομνηνών και των Βαγρατιδών, ανανεώθηκε στις αρχές του 13ου αιώνα όταν η βασίλισσα της Γεωργίας Θάμαρ αποφάσισε να συνδράμει στην εκστρατεία των Αλεξίου και Δαβίδ Μεγάλων Κομνηνών. Καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια της εξεταζόμενης περιόδου, οι δύο συμμαχικοί οίκοι, επιδίωκαν να ανανεώνουν συνεχώς τους συμμαχικούς όρους αξιοποιώντας τον θεσμό των δυναστικών συνοικεσίων. Η κορύφωση στη μεταξύ τους συνεργασία επήλθε μετά την άλωση της προστάτιδας δύναμης όλων των χριστιανικών πληθυσμών της Ανατολής, της Κωνσταντινούπολης. Αν και αποδυναμωμένοι από τον εμφύλιο πόλεμο που είχε ξεσπάσει στο πολύπαθο βασίλειο της Γεωργίας, οι γεωργιανοί οίκοι συστρατεύθηκαν με τους Μεγάλους Κομνηνούς στην τελευταία προσπάθεια περιορισμού του ολοένα αυξανόμενου οθωμανικού επεκτατισμού.el
dc.description.abstracttranslatedThe main aim of this dissertation is to examine the multiannual and multifaceted relations that developed from the beginning of the 13th to the middle of the 15th century between the Empire of Trebizond and the kingdom of Georgia. Through the comparative analysis of Byzantine, Georgian, Armenian and Russian primary sources we sought to highlight important aspects of the uninterrupted socio-political interactions between the two neighboring, co-religious and homodox kingdoms in an ever-expanding Muslim world. The alliance that was ratified in the early 12th century through the dynastic marriage between the Byzantine imperial house of Komnenos and the Bagratids, was renewed in the early 13th century when the Queen Thamar of Georgia decided to support the expedition of Alexios and David Grand Komnenoi. Throughout the period under review, the two allied dynastic houses sought to constantly renew the allied terms by utilizing the institution of dynastic marriages. Their collaboration culminated after the fall of the patron and “protectress” of all the Christian populations in the Eastern world, that of Constantinople. Although weakened by the civil war that had broken out in the long-suffering kingdom of Georgia, Georgian houses joined forces with the Great Komnenoi in the last attempt to oppose Ottoman expansionism.el
