Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to research the extent to which the Regional Operational Programmes are important parts of a wider regional planning or are just piecemeal actions that complement different policies as well as the timeless importance of these programs for the development of the Regional economy. At the same time, in the present study will be analyzed the obstacles that exist in relation to the increase of the efficiency of the available resources, but also the extent of the redistributive character of these resources per program period as well as whether the programs are fully harmonized with the wider spatial and development country planning, as well as the real challenges and development opportunities of each region. For the last thirty years, Greece has inextricably linked its development policy with the standards that emerge from the European development programs. Each new programming period takes on a specific name (for example the most recent programming period which will be active until 2023 is the well-known NSRF 2014-2020) and must in any case effectively and efficiently implement the instructions of the European operational program (either at sectoral or regional level) and to adapt effectively to the changes brought by each new programming period. The Region of Western Greece, due to its geographical location, social and economic characteristics, presents some peculiarities, which despite the long-term financing have not helped it to rise in the ranking based on economic prosperity. Therefore, the study of the business plan of this region and the positive impact that this can have on regional development is extremely interesting.
