Abstract
The subject of the thesis is the theoretical and non-destructive documentation approach of the late 16th-century icon painting entitled The Hospitality of Abraham, now in the Benaki Museum. The work is a characteristic example of the Cretan School of painting, at which Byzantine tradition and Italian art, especially Venetian Mannerism were mixed. The research aims to investigate the influence of Byzantine tradition and Western art on the artist's style, as well as the construction techniques and color palette that he chose. For the questions to be answered, the painting was studied typologically and iconographically and then imaging and spectroscopic analyses were conducted on it.
